Our School:
Cooneal National School is a rural co educational primary school situated between Ballina and Killala in North Mayo. There are four mainstream class teachers, one Special Education teacher and one Special Needs assistant. The school has a current enrolment of 89 pupils from Junior Infants to Sixth class. The school is a Catholic school under the patronage of the Bishop of Killala.
The present school was built in 1940 and it was at that time a two teacher school. It was a three teacher school from 1963-1969. In 1969 the old Ballymachola school closed and the pupils moved to Cooneal at which time Cooneal became a 4 teacher school. The school was extensively renovated and reopened in 2005.
At Cooneal National school we strive to foster a happy, safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. We aim to nurture each pupil in all dimensions of their life, spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional and physical in order to help each child to reach their full potential. We value and cherish all children equally and celebrate their differences.
Our school models and promotes the philosophy and values of Catholic and Christian life. While our school has a Catholic ethos, we also have due recognition and respect for all religions and welcome families of all faiths and none into our school community.
